We Will Not Fix What You Have Ruined | The Other Side: Barzakh and Beyond Ep. 15

Will your deeds save you or betray you? In the next life, even the smallest actions hold immense weight. Allah’s mercy is vast, but His justice is precise.

Will your deeds save you, or will they betray you?

In the next life, even the smallest actions hold immense weight. A prayer rushed through, a charity given with pride, a careless word that hurt someone—these could be the very things that hold you back. Allah’s mercy is vast, but His justice is precise.

The punishment of the grave is real, but so is the chance to escape it. You still have time to right your wrongs.

NOTE: All depictions of Barzakh are purely conceptual and only vocals were used in the making of the soundtrack.

  1. When the Prophet ﷺ migrated to Medina, at-Tufayl ibn Amr also migrated to him, along with a man from his people. However, they found the climate of Medina difficult to endure and became ill. The man grew distressed, so he took a sharp blade and cut his fingertips, causing his hands to bleed profusely until he died.

Later, at-Tufayl ibn Amr saw him in a dream, appearing in a good state, but with his hands covered. He asked him, “What did your Lord do with you?” The man replied, “He forgave me because of my migration to His Prophet ﷺ.” At-Tufayl then asked, “Why do I see you covering your hands?” The man responded, “I was told, ‘We will not fix what you have ruined.’”

At-Tufayl recounted this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ said: “O Allah, forgive his hands as well.” [Sahih Muslim #116]

  1. Ibn Abbas reported that a man fell off his camel in Arafat and broke his neck and died. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Bathe him with water and sidr (the leaves of the lote tree) and shroud him in his ihram. But do not perfume him or cover his head, for Allah will raise him on the Day of Resurrection pronouncing talbiya (i.e. saying labayk allahumma labbayk).” [Sahih al-Bukhari #1265; Sahih Muslim #1206
  2. Umar narrates: “When it was the Day of Khaybar, a group of the Prophet’s ﷺ Companions came there and said, ‘So and so is a martyr, so and so is a martyr’ till they happened to pass by a man and said: ‘So and so is a martyr.’ But the the Prophet ﷺ opposed this and said, ‘No. I have seen him in the Fire for the cloak that he had stolen from the spoils of war.’” [Sahih Muslim #114]
  3. Abu Hurayrah narrated that Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said: “There are people who fast and get nothing from their fast except hunger, and there are those who pray and get nothing from their prayer but a sleepless night.” [Sunan Ibn Majah #1690]
  4. Afif ibn al-Harith al-Yamani entered upon Abdullah ibn Abd ath-Thumali while he was struggling with his final breaths and said, “O Abu al-Hajjaj, if you are able to come to us after death and inform us of what you see, then do so.”

He said, “This became an accepted statement among the people of knowledge.”

A long time passed, and he did not see him, until one night ath-Thumali appeared to him in a dream. Afif said to him, “Have you not died?” He replied, “Indeed, I have.”

Afif asked, “How is your condition?”

He replied, “Our Lord has pardoned us for our sins, and none was destroyed among us except the Ahrad.”

Afif asked, “And who are the Ahrad?”

He replied, “Those whom people point to when they think of evil.” [Ibn Sa’d, At-Tabaqat; Ibn Abi ad-Dunya, Al-Manamat]

  2. Abu Hurayrah reported that Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said: “Do you know who the bankrupt person is?” They replied, “A bankrupt person is the one who has neither money nor possessions.” The Prophet ﷺ then said, “The bankrupt person from my Ummah is the one who will come on the Day of Judgment with prayers, fasting, and zakat, but he will also have insulted this person, falsely accused that person, unlawfully consumed the wealth of another, shed the blood of another, and struck yet another. So his good deeds will be distributed to those he wronged. If his good deeds are exhausted before he has repaid all that he owes, then the sins of those he wronged will be taken and cast upon him, and he will be thrown into the Fire.” [Sahih Muslim #2581
