What is the impact of a sincere du’a made for another?
Our lives are an intricate network of interactions, big and small. For those who pray for each other, even just by asking for the forgiveness of the believing men and women, there is an unimaginably big impact across time and space. One day, you’ll meet those you prayed for, as well as those who prayed for you. And even if you never met in this life, the bond you share as members of the same ummah is unbreakable.

- Abdullah ibn Nafi said: “A man from Medina passed away and was buried there. Another man saw him in a dream appearing as one of the people of Hellfire, which deeply saddened him. However, after seven or eight days, he saw him again in a dream, now appearing as one of the people of Paradise. He asked, ‘Didn’t you say you were among the people of Hell?’ The deceased replied, ‘That was true, but buried among us was a righteous man who interceded for forty of his neighbors, and I was among them.’” [Ibn Abi ad-Dunya, Al-Quboor]
- Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever follows the funeral procession of a Muslim with faith and seeking reward, staying until the prayer is offered and the burial is completed, will return with two qirats of reward, each qirat is like the size of Mount Uhud. Whoever prays over the deceased and leaves before the burial will return with one qirat.” [Sahih al-Bukhari #47; Sahih Muslim #945].

- The Prophet ﷺ said: “The believers, in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion, are like a single body: when one part aches, the rest of the body responds with sleeplessness and fever.” [Sahih al-Bukhari #6011; Sahih Muslim #2586]
- Bishr ibn Mansoor narrated that during the time of the plague, there was a man who regularly attended funeral prayers at the cemetery. Each evening, before returning home, he would stand at the entrance of the graves and say: “May Allah bring you comfort in your solitude, have mercy on your estrangement, pardon your sins, and accept your good deeds.” He would say nothing more than these words. One evening, he returned home without visiting the cemetery. That night, he saw a large group of people approach him in his dream. He asked, “Who are you, and what do you want?” They replied, “We are the people of the graves.” He asked, “What has brought you here?” They said, “You used to bring us a gift each evening when you returned home.” He asked, “What gift?” They replied, “The supplications you used to make.” He said, “I told them, ‘I will resume doing so.’ And after that, I never stopped.” [Al-Bayhaqi, Shu’ab al-Iman]
