What happens to those who die in the cause of their Lord? For Abdullah (ra), the father of Jabir (as), it was a beautiful death; he was surrounded by angels, and they remained at his side, shading him with their wings as he was carried off the battlefield. It was Abdullah (ra) who spoke to Allah without a veil between them, and about whom the verse was revealed, “Do not say of those who have been killed in the way of Allah, ‘They are dead.’ Rather, they are with their Lord, being sustained.”
